Floor region vs stable region: which App Store country should you actually use?
From price to subscribe — four steps
From price to subscribe — four steps
Price first, then a billing address, then the gift card, then the official app. Follow Apple and the app’s terms.
- Pick the product and storefront price — Compare the App Store list. Cheaper is not always easier to check out.
- Fill billing with a format-valid address — Copy street, city, and postal code into Apple’s form. Layout helper — not a real home.
- Buy and redeem a matching gift card — Foreign cards often decline. Redeem the storefront currency onto this Apple ID.
- Switch region and subscribe in the official app — Secondary Apple ID, matching network, then pay inside the app. We do not sell accounts.
Short answer
A floor region is the storefront with the lowest list price right now — usually the Philippines, Pakistan or India for AI subscriptions. A stable region costs a little more but is materially easier to fund and keep: Japan and Canada are the usual picks.
Choose the floor only if you can actually buy that country's gift card this week. If card stock is thin, a stable region with a real card channel usually beats a paper discount you cannot pay with.
Never compare the two on list price alone. Compare the all-in first payment and how likely the renewal is to go through.
| Product | US list | Floor region | Floor all-in | Stable region | Stable all-in |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus | $19.99 | Philippines $15.84 | $16.00 (card tracked) | Japan $19.00 | $18.81 |
| Claude Pro | $20.00 | Pakistan $17.71 | $18.75 (card tracked) | Canada $19.81 | $21.75 |
| CapCut Pro | $19.99 | India $4.19 | $4.80 (card tracked) | Japan $13.81 | $18.81 |
What makes a region "stable"
Card availability: multiple sellers, in stock most weeks, and a long track record.
Payment friction: no local bank requirement, no phone verification you cannot satisfy.
Price risk: a small gap to the US list means FX swings will not erase the decision either way.
Account risk: fewer aggressive promotions and shared-account scams around the region.
Who should chase the floor
You already have (or can get) the matching Apple ID and gift card, and you are willing to re-check prices before each top-up.
The all-in gap is large enough to matter — for example a creator tool at 70%+ off, or an annualised saving well into the tens of dollars.
You can absorb a failed checkout without losing money: unredeemed balances and unused cards are the usual loss mode.
Who should choose the stable region
You want a subscription that renews without babysitting card stock.
The saving is small (single-digit percent): setup risk outweighs it.
You are buying for work or a shared account, where a failed renewal costs more than the discount.
Risks
Region switching can conflict with platform terms and has account risk. We do not guarantee any method stays allowed.
Gift-card sellers go out of stock in exactly the popular regions. A "floor" is not a promise of availability.
FX moves weekly: re-run the comparison before each card purchase, not once a year.
