App Store Country & Region: Check, Understand, Switch
What is App Store country (region)?
App Store country (also called Country/Region) is the storefront tied to your Apple ID. It controls which prices you see for apps and subscriptions, which payment methods and gift cards work, and which media catalogs you can buy.
It is not the same as your physical location or device language. A US Apple ID keeps US store pricing even if you travel; a Turkey Apple ID keeps Turkey pricing when signed in as that account.
People search “app store country” to learn what the setting is, check which country their account uses, or change it for regional pricing (e.g. cheaper ChatGPT / Claude plans).
How to check your current App Store country
On iPhone/iPad: Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region.
On Mac: App Store → Account → View My Account → Country/Region.
On the web: appleid.apple.com → Sign-In and Security / Payment & Shipping may also show region-related settings; the App Store account Country/Region is authoritative for storefront pricing.
Before You Switch Regions
Before switching your App Store region, you need to:
1. Cancel all active subscriptions (Apple Music, iCloud storage, etc.)
2. Spend or wait for your store credit balance to clear
3. Wait for any pending refunds or pre-orders to complete
4. Have a valid payment method for the new region (or use a matching gift card)
5. Have a format-valid billing address for the target country — use /address/ for a template layout
Changing Your Region on iPhone/iPad
1. Open Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases
2. Tap View Account and sign in
3. Tap Country/Region
4. Tap Change Country or Region
5. Select your new country and agree to the terms
6. Enter your new payment method and billing address
7. Use our address generator for the correct address format
Creating a New Apple ID (Alternative)
Instead of changing your existing Apple ID, you can create a new one specifically for the target region.
This is safer because it preserves your original account and subscriptions.
Steps: Go to appleid.apple.com > Create Your Apple ID > Select target country
You can sign in and out of different Apple IDs on your device as needed.
